hanges to Queensland smoke alarm legislation means home owners will need to upgrade their smoke alarms to comply with the new requirements.   Queensland homes will be required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling on every level.

This change will occur over a 10 year period with interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms required from:

1st January 2017 – all new homes & substantially renovated homes (anything requiring a building application)
From 1st January 2022 in all domestic dwellings leased and sold.
From 1st January 2027 in all other domestic dwellings.

What is an interconnected photo electric smoke alarm?

Photoelectric is the way by the which the alarm detects smoke. The alarm detects visible particles of combustion and responds to a wide range of fires and are more effective across a wider range of fires experienced in homes.
